Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that his Russian counterpart’s visit to Pakistan is vital for promoting bilateral relations.

According to the details, ahead of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Islamabad, Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a video statement said that the distinguished guest will participate in delegation-level talks at the Foreign Ministry.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the Russian Foreign Minister will also hold separate meetings with Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

‘This visit reflects the fact that our bilateral relations with Russia are taking a new turn, ‘said FM Qureshi, adding that, ‘We intend to cooperate with each other in the region.’

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that, ‘we are observing how economic and defense relations between Pakistan and Russia are enhancing.’ He added that, ‘trade talks will also be held with the Russian Foreign Minister.’

During the talks between the two Foreign Ministers, the entire gamut of Pakistan-Russia relations will be reviewed and ways discussed to further broaden and deepen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues.

Commenting about the Afghan peace process, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Russia has a key role in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan. He added that Pakistan and Russia are working together in the Afghan peace process. Moreover, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Russia can persuade India to play a positive role in bringing peace to Afghanistan.
