KARACHI: US Senator Lindsey Graham has said that the Biden administration’s decision to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan without engaging Pakistan is a ‘major disaster in the making’.

Deeming it a disaster worse than the one in Iraq, Graham, in a series of tweets, said it was ‘stunning’ to hear that US President Joe Biden had not yet reached out to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Earlier this week, in an interview with HBO Axios, Imran Khan had revealed that the US president had not contacted him after assuming office.

In response to another question, the premier had clarified that Pakistan would not allow the Biden’s decision to not engage with Pakistan ‘disaster in the making’ US to use Pakistan’s air or military bases after it withdraws from Afghanistan.

“How the US expected a withdrawal from Afghanistan to be effective without coordinating with Pakistan?” Graham further questioned.

He went on to say that the Biden administration clearly believed that US’ problems in Afghanistan were behind it.

Biden said in April that the US forces would leave Afghanistan by September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

On Friday, Biden is expected to meet Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the country’s High Council for National Reconciliation, which oversees the government’s negotiation team with the Taliban, to discuss the troop withdrawal amid a surge in fighting between Afghan forces and the Taliban across the country.
