AJK Elections 2021: Who will be the next prime minister?
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Tanveer Ilyas and barrister Sultan Mahmood are striving to become the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to unofficial results, the PTI has won 25 constituencies, the PPP 10 and the PML-N six.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, a newcomer to Azad Jammu and Kashmir politics, is said to be a “strong” candidate for the PM’s post.
PTI sources said that former AJK Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood has expressed anger over the possibility of not being given the post.
In this regard, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry was contacted and said that both the candidates were being considered for the post of AJK Prime Minister but “the final decision will be taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan”.
He confirmed that both Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and Barrister Sultan Mahmood were under consideration for the PM’s job.
Asked about his displeasure with Barrister Sultan Mahmood, he said a decision was yet to be made.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas is currently serving as the Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Investment
The PML-N has accused him of providing “huge” funds to the ruling PTI, but Tanveer Ilyas has denied the allegations.
Talking to a private TV channel yesterday, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas said that the final decision would be taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
However, he said that if he was given the status of Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, he would meet the expectations of Prime Minister Khan.
