QUETTA: The All Pakistan Chief Minister Balochistan Diamond Jubilee Quetta Gladiator Women’s Cricket League 2021 commenced here amid fanfare at the Akbar Bugti Stadium Tuesday.

Women’s cricket teams from Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit -Baltistan are participating in the league. They were all present in full force at the impressive opening ceremony which was much similar to that of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with hundreds of colourful baloons sent in the air and jazzy music being played at the venue.

Nadeem Omar, the owner of leading PSL franchise Quetta Gladiator and the brain behind the women’s cricket league, while speaking to Bolnews, said: “This is the first ever time in Pakistan that such a league which entirely comprises the women cricketers is being held. We are really thankful to CM Balochistan Jam Mir Kamal Khan for providing all the cooperation and facilities to us in holding this league in collaboration with Quetta Gladiators.”

Nadeem further said that holding a women’s league, especially in Balochistan, was a big challenge due to security reasons and other problems. “But we have pulled it off here and I am really proud of my staff and fellow workers besides the entire working team of CM Balochistan for making it possible.”

Meanwhile, Director General Sports Balochistan Durra Baloch informed the media here that top class arrangements for the security, accommodation and transport have been made for the teams participating in the tournament.
