The number of daily Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in Pakistan has hit a record high for a second consecutive day.

Minister for planning and National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) Head Asad Umar said in a Tweet, “Yet another daily vaccination recordset. Yesterday 7 lakh 78 thousand vaccinations were carried out. New record for the first dose also… 5 lakh 61 thousand. New target: to inshallah cross 1 million vaccinations in a day.”

Earlier, Minister for planning and National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) Head Asad Umar total vaccinations carried out so far now exceed two and a half crores.

In a Tweet, the minister wrote, “Total number of people vaccinated has now crossed 2 crores. Further acceleration is being planned for August. By the end of August, all major cities target is to have at least 40% of the eligible population vaccinated.”

Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health, has urged the people to get vaccinated and announced that the authorities want to increase the number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine to one million per day.

According to the report, his announcement came at a time when the government is pursuing a strategy of linking various facilities to vaccination, which will lead to a ban on air travel from next week and banning mobile sim cards.

The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) meeting held yesterday described the situation in Karachi as the worst, with a positive rate of cases reaching 26.32 per cent, while 980 patients were admitted to intensive care wards in the city.

The federal government pledged to co-operate with the Sindh government to deal with the situation and provided personal protection equipment and oxygen.

On the other hand, Health Ministry spokesman Sajid Shah confirmed that 3 million doses of cyano farm vaccine had arrived in Pakistan from China on Tuesday.

However, during the NCOC meeting chaired by Federal Minister Asad Umar, the need for implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Karachi was emphasized.

The Sindh and Punjab governments had warned non-vaccinated people that their SIM cards would be blocked if they were not vaccinated.

Meanwhile, another 44 people have died in Pakistan due to the global pandemic of Coronavirus and the rate of positive cases has reached 8%.

According to Corona’s statistics website (covid.gov.pk) in Pakistan, 52,291 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 4,119 people were tested positive and 44 people have succumbed to the virus.

The official portal added that the rate of positive cases of coronavirus in the country during the last 24 hours was 7.8%.

According to the official portal, the number of deaths in the country has risen to 23,131 and the total number of cases has reached 1,015,827.

In addition, 7020 patients have recovered in 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 935,742 while the number of active cases is 56952.
