ISLAMABAD: The consumers of K-Electric will face higher electricity bills in the coming months because the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has allowed Karachi’s sole power distribution company to charge additional per unit cost of electricity for the last six months due to the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA).

The power regulator has permitted K-Electric to collect the six-month (January to June) fuel cost adjustment from customers in their August, September, and October bills, according to a notification.

The FCAs for two months in January and June will be resolved in the August bills. Since in one month the consumers had to pay to K-Electric while in another month the company had to refund the money to them the next month so that K-Electric would charge power users Rs1.0998 per unit.

The adjustments for February and April will be implemented in September, and consumers will be charged Rs1.5484 per unit. Consumers would be charged an extra Rs0.9921 per unit in their October bills.

The regulatory authority has authorized DISCOs to charge consumers Rs1.2505 per unit in the month of January, Rs2.0983 per unit in February, and Rs1.9419 per unit in March, while K-Electric has been asked to return Rs0.5499 per unit in April, Rs0.9498 per unit in May, and another refund of Rs0.1507 per unit in June.
