The 75th Independence Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm across the country and small and big events are being held to commemorate the Azaadi.

The day started with a salute of 31 cannons in the federal capital and 21 cannons in the provincial capitals. Prayers were offered for the security, development and prosperity of Pakistan while special prayers were also offered for the liberation of the people of Occupied Kashmir from Indian subjugation.

Due to the coronavirus, the Ministry of Health has issued instructions to take special precautions during Independence Day celebrations.

The largest flag hoisting ceremony was held at the President House in Islamabad on the occasion of Independence Day in which President Dr Arif Alvi was the chief guest.

Flag-raising ceremonies are also being held at all provincial capitals, divisional and district levels.

On the occasion of this day, important personalities including the President and the Prime Minister issued special messages.

Public and private buildings and streets, bazaars and markets have been illuminated, while national flags, banners, pictures of the founders of Pakistan and banners have been waved everywhere.

On the occasion of Independence Day, guard change ceremonies were also held at Mazar-e-Quaid and Mazar-e-Iqbal.

Cadets of Pakistan Naval Academy took over the duties of Honorary Guards at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and greeted the Quaid-e-Azam. Commodore Sohail Ahmed was the special guest of the ceremony who laid flowers at Mazar-e-Quaid and offered Fateha.

Guards took charge of the shrine of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, a poet of the East.

Pakistani embassies around the world are also hosting special Independence Day events with the participation of Pakistani expatriates.

This is the day when Pakistan came into being in 1947 after gaining independence from British imperialism.

August 14 is celebrated with great fanfare as an official national holiday in Pakistan. On this day, the people of Pakistan pay homage to their national benefactors by hoisting their national flag in the air.
