LAHORE: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has extended his stay in south Punjab for three more days, and will now visit Lodhran and Layyah too, with the opposition leader claiming that many people are willing to join his party.

According to sources, all the “electables” who had joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) before the 2013 and 2018 elections from central and south Punjab are in touch with the PPP’s top brass and are willing to jump ship. All the politicians had joined the Imran Khan-led party after they were convinced by Jahangir Khan Tareen and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

According to party insiders, Nazar Gondal, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Raja Riaz from Faisalabad, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich from Gujranwala, Samsam Bukhari and Ashraf Sohna from Okara, Aamir Dogar from Multan, Sardar Saif Khan Khosa from Dera Ghazi Khan, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi and Dr Shabir Qureshi from Muzaffargarh, Sardar Bahadur Khan Sehar and Malik Niaz Jhakkar are in contact with the PPP leadership.

“Some of them including Sardar Bahadur Khan Sehar have already joined PPP and the remaining would also join the party before the next general elections,” a senior party official told BOL News.

The party insiders also claimed that multiple politicians from central and south Punjab had met PPP leaders Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood in this regard.

Meanwhile, a senior party leader also claimed that PTI’s disgruntled leader Jahangir Khan Tareen has also made up his mind to join PPP and is only waiting for the right time.

“He (Tareen) could join PPP any day before the next general elections,” claimed the leader.

Party sources also shared that some of the “electables” from Punjab have delayed the announcement of them joining PPP as they are waiting for the release of development funds for their constituencies from the Buzdar-led government. They added that the politicians will join PPP as soon as they receive the funds from the chief minister.

A party leader added that some of these “electables” had already distanced themselves from PTI meetings and other political activities, and are just waiting for the right time.

“Leaders who were brought in PTI by Tareen have already informed him about this move,” a leader from Tareen’s like-minded group confirmed to BOL News on Tuesday.

PPP Chairman had a very successful tour of South Punjab and a large number of party workers, or jiyalas, thronged to his political rallies.

“The jiyalas are motivated after meeting the chairman. It is the first step in the right direction as jiyalas are now motivated and completely geared up for the upcoming elections after meeting the chairman personally,” a party leader added.

“If Chairman Bilawal frequently visits Punjab, and especially South Punjab, the party’s position in the upcoming elections would improve by a great deal,” a leader from South Punjab told BOL News.
