KARACHI: While rejecting the Sindh Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2021, Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh deemed Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah a “threat to democracy and security risk to the country.”

“The 14-year rule of the PPP has deprived masses of the province of all fundamental rights and basic facilities, while Bilawal Zardari and Murad Ali Shah have become a threat to democracy and security risk to the country,” he said.

He said that the PTI had launched a movement against the draconian law and moved Sindh High Court, while all parties conference and stakeholders conference would also be called in Karachi.

He said that the people of Sindh have already turned down this draconian law that not only takes away the local government’s powers and usurps rights of people but also opens doors of rampant corruption and horse-trading in the LG system.

“People of Sindh stands against the black law and fight against PPP’s efforts to raise state of the affluent in the province,” he said adding that PTI is committed to safeguard fundamental rights of people of the province and will not allow PPP to impose the “Zardarana” system.

“The LG system is a platform that nurtures young leaders and prepares them for playing their role in the development of their area but PPP’s LG system also denied youth right of participation in politics to make them grow up as leaders,” he said adding that new amendments enable the non-elected influential persons to grab positions of chairman and mayor by exerting their influence and money.

He said that PTI would stage demonstrations and rallies across the province to inform people how PPP violated their rights.

“We will stage a sit-in in front of Bilawal House and CM House and resist their intentions aimed at centralisation of power,” he said
