Educational institutes shut down in Quetta amid threat of terrorist attack

QUETTA: All the educational institutes have been shut down, examinations debarred and sizeable contingent of security forces deployed in Quetta after a threat alert was issued for 48 hours, Bol news reported.

All the security personnel have been summoned to their posts and their leaves have been cancelled. Whereas, commandos have also been deployed at different locations. The government has asked people to avoid going to bazaars and other crowded places for two days.

Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) Chairperson Sadia Farooqi said all the schools would remain close for two days and similarly matric exams would not be held on Thursday and Friday in Quetta.

However, she said exams in all the other districts would be held as usual. She said date for the cancelled exams would be announced later.

On March 3, at least three people including two police officials were killed and 25 others injured, six of them were said to be in serious condition, when a bomb blast took place on Fatima Jinnah Road in Quetta.

Official sources had said that the powerful bomb was detonated close to a police mobile which was parked in front of a shop. After the blast the nearby shop had caught fire. “The target of the blast was police mobile van of the station house officer of city police,” a senior police officer had said, adding that the SHO remained unhurt in the blast while his gunman lost his life.
