Pakistan attaches special importance to multidimensional relations with EU: foreign minister

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Androulla Kaminara on Sunday discussed the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the European Union (EU) countries and other issues of mutual interest.

During a meeting, the foreign minister said that Pakistan attached high importance to its bilateral multifaceted ties with the EU.

He reiterated that under its economic priorities, Pakistan was committed to early implementation of the next-phase joint projects under a strategic partnership with the EU.

On February 18, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who was on an official visit to Belgium, had said Pakistan valued its relations with European Union countries and earnestly looked forward to enhance mutual cooperation based on common interest.

The army chief had called on Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Stefano Sannino and Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Claudio Graziano.

According to the media wing of armed forces, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the meetings, matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation including current situation in Afghanistan and bilateral relations with the EU were discussed.

EU dignitaries had appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region and pledged to play their role for increased collaboration with Pakistan at all levels.

On November 28, 2021, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had underscored the significance of Pakistan being a vital link between South Asia, Central and West Asia and Europe.
