Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Thursday submitted its response in the Supreme Court (SC) ahead of the hearing on a presidential reference filed by President Dr Arif Alvi seeking the interpretation of Article 63(A).
PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari argued that the reference doesn’t fall in the scope of Article 186 of the constitution, under which the president can seek the opinion of the apex court.
He said that the reference is non-maintainable and pleaded with the court to dismiss it.

He added that Article 63(A) cannot be invoked against any member of the National Assembly (MNA) before voting on a no-confidence motion against a prime minister.
Earlier, PPP senior leader and Senate ex-chairman Raza Rabbani approached the SC for his inclusion as a party in the presidential reference hearing.
On Monday, the government filed a reference in the SC for the interpretation of Article 63-A of the constitution.
The reference was filed by the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan, following which the apex court issued notices to the political parties.
The reference had been filed following reports of deviation of some members of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the current situation of the country.
