ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday has said that the country is facing load shedding as a result of the previous government’s severe mismanagement and incompetence, vowing to address the situation at the earliest.

The Prime Minister announced in the National Assembly that he has conducted multiple meetings with the Ministries of Petroleum, Power, and Finance in the recent few days and that the country now has the capacity to generate 35,000 megawatts of electricity. This is more than enough to cover our power needs.

He regretted, however, that the power plants were shut down due to a gas shortage. PM Shehbaz pointed out that when gas was available for three to four dollars per unit, the previous government did not buy it.

According to him, the price of petrol has risen to between thirty and thirty-five dollars a unit today.

The Prime Minister recalled that the previous PML (N) government had inked a reduced gas import arrangement with Qatar, on which the previous PTI government used to raise fingers.

Shehbaz Sharif said he went to the Rawal Chowk flyover project this morning, which was supposed to be finished in twenty-four months and cost one billion rupees. He claimed that in Punjab, PML-N finished multiple such projects in 72 to 82 days.
