LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar has arrested at least 40 suspects involved in hundi and hawala business in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as it continues its actions against the suspects embroiled in the illegal activity currency exchange.

According to Deputy Director Afzal Khan Niazi, on Friday, FIA Peshawar teams arrested three suspects during three separate raids. He said receipts of illegal hundi/ hawala to the tune of around Rs3 million were confiscated from their possession.

He said from January to March 2022, the FIA Peshawar not only arrested around 40 suspects but also recovered millions of rupees from their possession being sent through this illegal activity in the province. He said actions would continue to stop illegal capital flight from the country.

On January 25, continuing its crackdown, the Corporate Banking Circle (CBC) of the FIA Peshawar had conducted three separate raids and arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in illegal currency exchange, hawala and hundi.

The suspects include Zakeriya, Haji Sawab, and Muhammad Zubair. Millions of rupees were recovered from their possession. The officials said three separate cases have been registered against the suspects and further investigations are underway.

In December 2021, FIA Peshawar had booked 37 suspects in 34 raids for their alleged involvement in money laundering and hawala hundi business.
