LAHORE: Nauman Langrial, a member of the Punjab assembly, on Saturday has formally announced the Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT) group’s support for the PML-N candidate for the Punjab chief minister.

While addressing a press conference, the MPA said the group, which includes PTI dissidents, took its decision based on “honesty, sincerity, and for the interest of the country,” and that he hoped Hamza would do a good job in the province.

Langrial stated that the organisation will “totally support” Hamza while also calling attention to any “wrongdoings and attempting to prevent them.”

The leader of the JKT group slammed outgoing Chief Minister Buzdar, accusing him of promoting corruption and harming the PTI.

Prior to Jahangir Tareen’s group, PTI’s Aleem Khan group has also announced its support for PML-N.

Earlier, an assembly session was held today for the election of the new Chief Minister of Punjab which was presided over by Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

During the session, it was decided that a new Chief Minister of Punjab would be elected on Sunday, April 3.

In this regard, the Secretary Assembly said that the nominations of all the candidates for the post of Chief Minister can be taken till 5 pm today.

Earlier on Friday, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar accepted the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Ahmad Khan Buzdar.

Punjab Governor Sarwar has summoned the Punjab Assembly session in Lahore today at 1100 in the morning to elect a new Chief Minister. A notification has been issued in this regard.

Buzdar resigned on March 28 after the Punjab Assembly’s joint Opposition tabled a no-confidence motion against him.

The opposition filed a no-confidence resolution against Buzdar, claiming that they were dissatisfied with his performance.

Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated Speaker of Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz for the post.
