LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz on Saturday ordered for immediate release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari.

He said that Shireen Mazari was respected as a woman and he had given order for her release. Arrest of any woman was not in line with our social values, he maintained.

The Punjab CM said there should be an investigation against the Anti-Corruption Wing personnel who arrested Shireen Mazari. “If arrest is necessary for investigation then the law will take its course,” he said.

Hamza Shahbaz said that he did not agree with the arrest of Shireen Mazari, adding that the PML-N as a political party believed in respect for women.

“I have directed the police to get Shireen Mazari released from anti-corruption wing’s custody,” he said.

On PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s fresh remarks against Pakistan Muslim League-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, he said that inappropriate remarks were made against Maryam Nawaz which was reprehensible.

It should be noted that PTI central leader and former federal minister for human rights Shireen Mazari was arrested outside her house on Saturday. Shireen Mazari was arrested by anti-corruption wing of police, for investigation in an old case against her in DG Khan.

Shireen’s daughter, Iman Mazari said she was told that Anti-Corruption Wing personnel took her mother with them.

“Male police officers have beaten and taken my mother away. All I have been told is that Anti Corruption Wing Lahore has taken her,” Iman Mazari tweeted.

Quoting sources as saying, Bol news channel said police were shifting Shireen Mazari to Lahore from Margalla Hill police station.

Iman Mazari termed this act of law enforcers an abduction. She said her mother was tortured and she was not given any information. She said she did not exactly know as to who had taken her mother.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser said if the law enforcement agencies had any evidence against Shireen Mazari, then they should present them. He said the government could not crush the anti-government movement through such actions.
