Corona cases reemerges in Karachi as positivity rate hits 15.75%

• The spike is the biggest among all cities all over Pakistan. According to the National Institute for Health Sciences, as many as 168 new corona cases were reported in last 24 hours
• After Karachi, most cases were reported in Lahore, with the positivity ratio of 2.38 percent after tests of 1974 tests

KARACHI: Pakistan’s biggest city – Karachi – is facing a sudden surge in coronavirus cases as the positivity rate spiked up to 15.75 percent, Bol News reported on Friday.

The spike is the biggest among all cities all over Pakistan. According to the National Institute for Health Sciences, as many as 168 new corona cases were reported in last 24 hours – with a positivity ratio of 15.75 percent. However, no causality was reported after tests of 1,160 tests.

After Karachi, most cases were reported in Lahore, with the positivity ratio of 2.38 percent after tests of 1974 tests.

The Sindh government has increased testing in light of the emergence of corona cases, it has directed people to over 60 years to get booster shots, and meanwhile it has asked more details from the District Health Officers for children’s enrolment for vaccination.

Booster doses will be given in schools at the start of academic sessions from August. Notably, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in May announced the restoration of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) with the emergence of coronavirus sub-variant Omicron.

The center was officially ceased to function by Asad Umar and the responsibilities were handed over to NIH.

The former minister announced that decision in the light of the Covid-19 indicators that had been all-time low with a high vaccination rate.
