KARACHI: The metropolitan city is once again witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases as the positivity ratio has crossed 20% in the past few days, data shared by National Institute of Health (NIH) revealed.

As per details, after conducting 650 tests of Covid positivity, 138 returned positive in the metropolitan city. The cases have seen a rise due to a sub-variant of the virus.

Meanwhile, the country is standing at a positivity rate of 2.14% with 268 positive cases and one death in the past 24 hours. 74 patients on critical care are recorded.

After the resurge, Sindh Health Department has announced booster jabs for people more than 60 years of age.

The health department also sought details of children 12-18 years of age and the booster dose campaign will be launched soon in the educational institutions.

Notably, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in May announced the restoration of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) with the emergence of coronavirus sub-variant Omicron.

The center was officially ceased to function by Asad Umar and the responsibilities were handed over to NIH.

The former minister announced that decision in the light of the Covid-19 indicators that had been all-time low with a high vaccination rate.
