SUKKUR: At least eight people were killed and 32 others sustained injuries when a passenger coach overturned near  Rohri on Sukkur-Multan motorway, Bol News reported.

According to details, the passenger coach was on its way from Swat to Karachi when it overturned near Rohri Toll Plaza on the National Bypass after the driver made a sharp turn and fell into a ditch.

The deceased included four women and two children who hailed from Swat. Around five passengers were killed on the spot will many of the injured were injured children.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured to district and civil hospitals. Many of the injured are said to be in a critical condition. Pakistan Army personnel also reached the spot and rescued the passengers trapped in the passenger coach.

According to reports, Motorway Police was not present when the accident occurred and helpless passengers were stuck for more than an hour. An injured passenger said they cried for help but no one came to their rescue.

In another horrific incident, at least 20 people lost their lives and six are injured as a passenger bus collided with an oil tanker.

The incident took place at M-5 Motorway when the bus taking passengers from Lahore to Karachi collided with an oil tanker.

The reason for the accident was overspeeding as mentioned by the police and the traffic at the spot remained suspended for hours after the collision. The bus caught fire immediately after the incident and the injured were rescued by the motorway police.

The spokesperson for the Motorway police said that the fire was so intense that it was visible from a long distance and it took several hours for the teams to snuff out the fire.

Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi sought a report on the incident from the Multan commissioner. He expressed grief over the lives lost in the accident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
