Governor SBP meets with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Jameel Ahmed on Saturday met with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

In the meeting, the country’s economic situation and future strategy were discussed, while the overall economic situation of the country was also discussed in detail. Governor State Bank informed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar about the investigation related to various banks.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dar landed in Pakistan along with PM Shehbaz Sharif on September 26. He was instructed by the PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif to go back to Pakistan and assumed charge of the Finance Ministry.

In August. the federal government appointed Mr Jameel Ahmad as the new governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

He was previously serving as the central bank’s deputy governor since October 2018. A notification has been issued in this regard on the appointment of Jameel Ahmad for a period of five years.

The post fell vacant in May after former SBP governor Reza Baqir’s term ended. The government decided against extending his tenure. Following Baqir’s exit, senior deputy governor Murtaza Syed had assumed the position of acting governor.
