ISLAMABAD: Minister of Defence Khawaja Asif said Thursday that the summary of the key appointments – Lt. Gen Asim Munir as COAS and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC – was sent to the President Dr Arif Alvi and was hopeful that the president will not politicize it.

He was talking to the media after the Cabinet meeting when said that the president will approve the summary sent by the prime minister terming his approval as the end of agitation.

The Defense Minister said that the President is the Supreme Commander of the Pakistan Army, and it is hoped that the President will keep things smooth.

The minister also said that the prime minister has used his constitutional authority while making the appointments and it has been a test for Imran Khan – the PTI Chairman.

“It will be a test for Imran Khan whether he wants to make the institution strong or controversial.”

Pertinently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has picked Lt. Gen Asim Munir as COAS and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC today after a Cabinet meeting and the news was confirmed by the Minister of Information and Broadcast Marriyum Aurangzeb.

The summary has been sent to President Arif Alvi for approval.
