LAHORE: Pakistani-origin French fashion designer Mehmood Bhatti has announced to end welfare activities and leave the country.

Bhatti said he has also decided to return the Sitara-e-Pakistan which he had been bestowed upon by the government of Pakistan.

The fashion designer said he was dejected after 12 cases were lodged against him and land purchased for an orphanage had been occupied He said he will return the state honors conferred upon him by December.

He threatened to go on hunger strike outside the Supreme Court if the case against him were not dismissed and the land grabbed was not retrieved by March 20, 2023.

Expressing disappointment over the state of affairs, Bhatti said he will never return to Pakistan if the injustice against him is not over. He appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take notice.

Mehmood Bhatti is a Pakistani French fashion designer. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Bhatti immigrated to France in 1976, where he established himself as a fashion designer.

His multi-national company, Bhatti, is located in ten countries and achieves an annual turnover of more than twenty million euros. The Paris City Hall has rewarded him with a special medallion ‘Travail et Merite’ for his achievements.

On March 23, 2004, Bhatti was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s third highest civil award. Bhatti is recognized among the paramount fashion designers of the world.
