ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Friday revoked the lifetime disqualification of former PTI leader Faisal Vawda by accepting his unconditional apology before the court.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial heard the petition against Faisal Vawda’s life time disqualification.
The chief justice had summoned Faisal Vawda to court for giving him a chance to apologise and accept his mistake.
The former federal minister told the court that he apologises unconditionally and would accept any punishment that is awarded to him.
After accepting Faisal Vawda’s apology, the court ruled that Vawda was disqualified under Article 63(1)(c) and not Article 62(1)(f) . Court disqualified him under Article 63(1)(c) for the current term.
Ex-Federal minister Faisal Vawda, who was disqualified for life from becoming a lawmaker, approached the Supreme Court in February 2022 with a plea to set aside the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of Feb 9 that barred him from parliamentary politics.
The former senator’s pleaded before the apex court that the ECP had given no grounds or reasons for invoking Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution to disqualify him for life.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified for a lifetime to Faisal Vawda from parliament for submitting a false affidavit on February 09, 2022.
The PTI senator was disqualified by the ECP for violating Article 62(1)(f) which pertains to being “sadiq (truthful) and “amin” (honest).
