Azam Swati under Sindh police custody in Qambar

• Azam Swati is currently in custody of Sindh Police in Qambar
• A case was registered against him for making controversial statements
• He was brought to Sindh after being taken into custody in Balochistan

LARKANA: PTI Senator Azam Swati is currently in the custody of Sindh Police in the town of Qambar located in district Qambar-Shahdadkot, his lawyer has confirmed.

Advocate Sohail Khan said Azam Swati is currently in the custody of Sindh Police in Naseerabad Police Station. He said FIR No. 188 has been registered against Swati, while FIR No. 77 has been filed by Wari Police Station.

The lawyer expressed concern over Azam Swati’s health and said the veteran politician is an elderly person with a history of cardiac issues.

A day earlier, Swati was taken into custody by the Sindh Police and brought to the province to face the cases against him. The development came after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) stopped lodging any further cases against him and order his release.

Instead of being released, Swati was taken to Sindh on a chartered flight. Out of the six cases registered against Swati in Sindh, five have been registered in Karachi and one in Qambar.

On Friday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices on a petition related to the registration of six cases against Senator Azam Swati in the province.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice KK Agha, presided over the hearing pertaining to the application filed by Swati’s son Usman regarding the registration of the cases/

During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Anwar Mansoor Khan informed the court that the senator is currently under arrest and was transferred from Quetta.

He said cases have been registered across the country on the same charges in violation of Supreme Court’s decisions. The court issued notices and ordered the concerned police to submit a report on December 12 regarding the listed cases.

Azam Swati was arrested from Islamabad in the controversial tweet case. Multiple cases had been registered against the senator including in Sindh and Balochistan.

On December 1, a district and sessions court sent the senator to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in the case after which he was transferred to Balochistan where he was ultimately taken to Kuchlak.

The authorities have also suspended his passport while the Capital Development Authority (CDA) sealed his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.
