Pakistan’s Head of Mission in Kabul was attacked.

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said remained in active contact with the Afghan authorities regarding terrorist attack on Pakistan’s Head of Mission in Kabul.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed the confidence that it would be fully investigated and the perpetrators and their abettors would be brought to account.

Responding to media queries regarding remarks reportedly made by Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said that it was an ongoing investigation and they were closely following it.

“Pakistan remains resolute in our commitment to fight the scourge of terrorism,” the spokesperson added.

Head of Mission in Kabul Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani arrived in Islamabad on Monday after surviving an assassination attempt in the Afghan capital.

The envoy remained unhurt while a guard was wounded in the attack as armed men opened fire at the Pakistani mission.  However, the Foreign Office said he was is in the country on a prescheduled visit for consultations

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that Taliban authorities had arrested a foreign operative of the Islamic State terrorist group for allegedly carrying out the assassination attempt on Pakistan’s top diplomat in Kabul.

The Foreign Office had earlier said it was verifying reports that IS-KP has accepted responsibility for the terrorist attack on the Pakistan Embassy compound

It added the terrorist attack is yet another reminder of the threat that terrorism poses to peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

“We must act resolutely with all our collective might to defeat this menace. On its part, Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to combat terrorism,” the Foreign office reaffirmed,
