LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday dismissed the petition seeking stoppage of a possible dissolution of the Punjab Assembly on condition of withdrawal.

Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court heard the case.

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Election Commission, Chief Secretary, and others were made parties in the petition.

The petition was filed by a citizen Namdar Ali.

The court remarked that the dissolution of the assembly is the constitutional authority of Chief Minister Punjab and how the court can interfere.

Court questioned how fundamental rights are affected by the dissolution of the assembly.

Court asked the petitioner to withdraw the plea or the court pronounces its decision.

The petitioner submitted that On December 18, CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi said that the assembly would complete its constitutional term.

He further submitted that Pervaiz Elahi is dissolving the assembly on the directives of Imran Khan which is a violation of the constitution and law.

The petitioner said only Imran Khan will benefit from the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.

He said the economic situation also cannot afford elections and pleaded to the court to order to stop the possible dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.

 

Earlier, Lahore High Court (LHC) sought the details of recipients of Toshakhana gifts from 1947 till date.

Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Asim Hafeez heard the petition filed by a citizen named Munir Ahmed through his counsel Advocate Azhar Siddique.

The petition maintained that the details of the gifts of the Toshakhana must be made public. To which, the government’s lawyer said that the details cannot be made public as they are confidential.
