ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office on Friday said there were no plans to close the Pakistan Embassy or withdraw diplomats from Kabul.

ECP spokesperson issued a statement in response to a media query regarding the attack on Pakistan Embassy in Kabul.

Pakistan is in contact with the Interim Government in Afghanistan and enhanced security measures are being taken to protect Pakistani diplomatic personnel and Missions in Afghanistan, said the spokesperson.

Pakistan’s Head of Mission in Kabul survived an assassination attempt after an embassy staffer was attacked in the Afghan capital.

According to reports, an official of the Pakistan Embassy was shot at while the ambassador was taking a stroll within the embassy’s premises.

The Head of Mission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani was targeted by armed assailants in Kabul who reportedly fired from a nearby building.

The bullet hit the SSG guard on duty at the embassy while the envoy survived the attack. However, no casualties were reported in the incident. There was no rush at the Pakistani embassy on Friday due to the weekly holiday.

The injured guard has been transferred to a hospital. He was reportedly shot three times in the chest and will be transferred back to Pakistan while security outside the embassy  has been enhanced

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the a “dastardly assassination attempt” on the head of Pakistan’s mission in Kabul.

“Salute to the brave security guard, who took a bullet to save his life. Prayers for the swift recovery of a security guard,” the prime minister said in a tweet.

The prime minister demanded immediate investigation and action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.

It must be mentioned that Pakistan’s current mission head at the Kabul embassy Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani took charge on November 4.
