ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has recalled its Head of Mission from Kabul after an embassy staffer was attacked in the Afghan capital, BOL News reported.

According to diplomatic sources, an official of the Pakistan Embassy was shot at while the ambassador was taking a walk within the embassy’s premises.

The Head of Mission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani was targeted by armed assailants in Kabul who reportedly fired from a nearby building.

The bullet hit the SSG guard on duty at the embassy while the envoy survived the attack. However, no casualties were reported in the incident. There was no rush at the Pakistani embassy on Friday due to the weekly holiday.

Pakistan has decided to temporarily recall the envoy and other officials from the embassy, sources further revealed. The Foreign Office has not yet commented on the incident.

The injured guard has been transferred to a hospital. He was reportedly shot three times in the chest and will also be transferred back to Pakistan, diplomatic sources added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the a “dastardly assassination attempt” on the head of Pakistan’s mission in Kabul.

“Salute to the brave security guard, who took a bullet to save his life. Prayers for the swift recovery of a security guard,” the prime minister said in a tweet.

The prime minister demanded immediate investigation and action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.

The security outside the embassy  has been enhanced and the Government of Pakistan is expected raise the matter with interim Afghan government.

It must be mentioned that Pakistan’s current mission head at the Kabul embassy Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani took charge on November 4.
