LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Punjab women wing on Thursday staged a protest outside the Supreme Court (SC) registry demanding justice for Senator Azam Swati, who was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over alleged “objectionable” tweets against state institutions.

Punjab Health Minister and PTI Central Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid led the women of the party and also filed an application to the SC registry requesting the chief justice of Pakistan to take a suo motu notice against the oppression on Azam Swati.

The women workers holding placards chanted slogans in favour of Azam Swati. They alleged that the federal government was involved in releasing a personal video of the senator.

PTI leaders Andleeb Abbas, Amina Janjua, Shanila Ali, Shanila Rooth, Sadia Sohail Rana were prominent among the women protestors. Some of the women participated in the protest blindfolded with black ribbons.

Dr Rashid said women played an important role in the freedom movement of Pakistan and now the women were out for the rights of mothers and sisters.

She said the federal government made the women of the country ashamed by releasing Swati’s personal video. The same federal government dragged the women on roads on May 25, she added.

The provincial minister said the Sharif family did not care about the honor of mothers and sisters. She alleged that interior minister Rana Sanaullah was a killer of innocent people in the Model Town incident.

She also condemned JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazalur Rehman for uttering derogatory remarks against the women supporting PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
