Second phase of LB elections is underway in AJK

• Polling is  underway in four districts of the Poonch division including Bagh, Rawlakot, Haveli, and Sudhanoti.
• Upto one million people will use their voting rights while 487 wards have been set up for polling.
• According to the AJK EC third phase of LB elections will be held in three districts of the southern Mirpur division on December 8.

AZAD JAMMU & KASHMIR: The 2nd phase of local bodies’ elections kicked off in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Saturday.

According to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission (AJK EC), polling is underway in four districts of the Poonch division including Bagh, Rawlakot, Haveli, and Sudhanoti.

The voting that started at 8:00 am will continue till 5 pm. Upto one million people will use their voting rights while 487 wards have been set up for polling.

AJK EC has established 1,859 polling stations and 2,697 polling booths for 875 seats of local councils, including union councils, district councils, town committees, municipal committees, and municipal corporations.

According to the AJK EC third phase of LB elections will be held in three districts of the southern Mirpur division on December 8.

Earlier, 1st phase of the Local government elections was held on November 27 in three districts of Muzaffarabad.

At least 5,000 armed troops of civil armed forces including Punjab Constabulary (PC) and Frontier Constabulary (FC) is available to assist local civil administration in 2nd and 3rd phases of the polls in Poonch and Mirpur Divisions respectively on December 3 and 8.

According to the results, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) got 197 seats, followed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) 194 seats while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz won 127 seats, and the independent candidates obtained 121 seats of local councils in the region.
