Khalid Maqbool condemns Fawad Chaudhry's arrest. Fawad was detained for allegedly 'threatening'...
ISLAMABAD: Fawad Chaudhry, a former federal information minister, will be brought before a court at 11:30 a.m. after completing a two-day physical examination and photogrammetry test at a forensic facility in Lahore, BOL News reported.
Babar Awan, the attorney for Fawad Chaudhry, asked Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja to resume the case early at the start of today’s session.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader was then ordered by the judge to be produced by the police at 11:30 am following his physical test.
Following filing a case against him at the Kohsar Police Station, Fawad was taken into custody from his Lahore apartment on Wednesday. He is being held on sedition charges for allegedly openly “threaten[ing]” the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a media interview.
After his physical remand period expired on Friday, he was brought before the court, but the prosecution’s plea for an extension was denied by the judicial magistrate.
The session court later overturned the judgment. The court magistrate granted the police a two-day remand on Saturday and ordered the authorities to present him in court following the end of the remand.
In their request for additional custody, the police had argued that they had not been given enough time to interview Fawad Chaudhry and conduct a photogrammetry test. On Sunday, the PTI leader was brought to his Lahore home for the purpose of recovering communications equipment.
Fawad requested a medical check from the magistrate at the Kohsar Police Station on Sunday. The PTI leader said in his plea that the federal police are not carrying out his medical test, in violation of his fundamental rights.
Additionally, it said Senator Azam Khan Swati and Shahbaz Gill, two PTI leaders, had been subjected to physical and emotional abuse by the police.
He continued, “The cops might behave the same way they have in the past, which is why they are not handling my medical.”
The former federal minister of information pleaded with the court to take notice of the order violation right now.
