ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court on Saturday accepted the plea submitted by the Police for the extension in physical remand of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in a sedition case filed against him.
Session Judge Tahir Mahmood announced the reserved verdict over the police petition for further physical remand.
A petition filed by the police for the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry was heard in a district and sessions court today and the court ordered authorities to produce the PTI leader by 12:30.
The directives were issued by Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Mehmood Khan.
Earlier, the police requested the court to “nullify” the judicial magistrate’s decision and extend Fawad’s physical remand.
Fawad Chaudhry was brought to the court amid strict security and in a statement before court, he maintained that he is not taking his words back.
“I stood by my statement and would not backtrack on it.”
Fawad’s counsel informed the court that his client is not allowed to meet his family to which the court allowed him to meet his family.
The court while accepting Police’s plea of extension in physical remand rejected Fawad’s plea for discharge from the case.
Pertinnetly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry was arrested from his residence in the wee hours on January 25 for threatening the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
A case against the PTI leader was lodged at Kohsar police station Islamabad at the complaint of the ECP.
