Hamza recommends Mohsin Naqvi, Ahad Cheema for caretaker CM Punjab

• Hamza Shehbaz has sent two names for the post of caretaker chief minister.

• He nominated Malik Ahmad Khan as focal person for further communication

LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz has sent two names for the post of caretaker chief minister.

The PML-N leader has recommended the names Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Ahad Cheema for the post of caretaker chief minister.

The recommended names have been sent to Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman for appointment of the interim setup in the province.

Hamza Shehbaz has nominated Malik Ahmad Khan as the focal person for further communication. Hamza said he is not satisfied with the names sent by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Ahad Cheema is a former bureaucrat who is currently serving as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Establishment. He had resigned from civil service in June 2022.

He had served under former chief ministers Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi and Shehbaz Sharif on various projects.

He was the head of the Lahore Development Authority and was arrested by NAB before the 2018 general elections. He served 38 months in jails before being released.

Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi is a journalist and media tycoon who runs a private news channel. He is also a prominent businessman in Lahore.

A day earlier, Malik Ahmed Khan contacted Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for consultations over the interim setup Elahi said that they had proposed names that would also be acceptable for the PML-N.

The PTI and PML-Q has already forwarded the three names for the post of interim chief minister to the governor for the post.

It has recommended the names of Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, Naseer Ahmed Khan, and Nasir Mahmood Khosa’s names to Governor Punjab Baligh Ur Rehman as their nominees for caretaker CM.

The Punjab Governor acknowledged receiving three names from Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi which were being forwarded to Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif. He hoped both leaders would jointly agree on any name within the stipulated period.

PML-N had also agreed on the name of the former president Supreme Court Bar Association Ahsan Bhoon but he excused himself from assuming responsibility.
