LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has started consultation for the distribution of tickets for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections.

Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser called on the prime minister at his residence in Zaman Park and discussed a wide range of political issues.

During the meeting, they discussed the political situation after the dissolution of the provincial assemblies. They also discussed matters related to the allotment of tickets for elections of the two provincial assemblies.

According to reports, Imran Khan instructed provincial party officials to immediately start shortlisting candidates for awarding tickets.

Imran Khan said he will decide on issuing tickets for the upcoming elections himself. He said the party will award tickers only to those candidates who are sincere with PTI. He said there will be no compromise on merit regarding the distribution of party tickets.

The party is gearing up for the election of the provincial assembly. The interim government has been set up in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Azam Khan took over as caretaker chief minister.

The matter regarding the appointment of the caretaker chief minister in Punjab will now be decided by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition parties have also started preparation for the upcoming elections.

The alliance is reportedly holding consultation with legal experts to delay elections in both provinces and whether the federal government can extend the tenure of the interim setup.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also formed a parliamentary board to oversee the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The 32-member parliamentary board has been formed on the instructions of party chief Nawaz Sharif and includes PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.

PML-N senior vice president Maryam Nawaz, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Main Javed Latif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Ameer Muqam, Murtaza Javaid Abbasi will be part of the parliamentary board.

The party presidents of all four provinces have also been included. They board will be responsible for awarding party tickets to candidates contesting elections. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that PML-N will actively take part in the upcoming elections with full preparations.
