KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami observed Yaum-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) on Friday after its outstanding success in the Local Government election in Karachi.
Speaking at a gathering on New MA Jinnah Road., Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rahman thanked for supporting them in the elections and said their hard work has paid off.
He expressed gratitude and said the Jamaat-e-Islami has emerged as the largest party in Karachi.
“As a result of the constant and long struggle, Jamaat-e-Islami has emerged as the largest party in Karachi,” he said. ‘The sapling planted by Syed Abula Ala Maududi has borne fruit today.”
He said Karachi was once known for its identity, education, sports, wide roads, and excellent transport system but destiny did not provide justice to the city.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami sacrificed their lives and answered bullets with unity but tyrannical forces did not want the city to prosper. He dedicated the election victory to those party workers who have laid down their lives.
“The city of Karachi has taken s historic turn today,” he said, recalling that people were humiliated during the military operation in the 90s but late Professor Abdul Ghafoor spoke for the rights of everyone without any discrimination or racial prejudice.
“Dead bodies were found in bags and the culture of terrorism became common. Political parties were afraid hurling the party flag but the Jamaat-e-Islami fought hard,” he added. “We were against those who destroyed the City of Lights with violence and fascism.”
He said the Jamaat-e-Islami resisted the privatization of K-Electric and even raised a voice against Bahria Town. He said the party served the public even during the coronavirus pandemic.
He mentioned the party is providing free IT courses for over 10,000 children with the support of Al-Khidmat. He mentioned that a movement was launched on social media for the initiative.
“Jamaat-e-Islami has crossed the milestone of the Karachi Movement. There is a party of three crore people,” he said, adding that they have abolished sectarianism in the party and allowed people from walks to life to become a part of it.
He said under the patronage of Siraj-ul-Haq, the journey of construction and development has started and will continue from Karachi to Kashmore.
He said the municipal elections were held as a result of public struggle even though the constituencies and census were not correct. Despite all the mismanagement, Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the largest party and won 94 seats, he added.
Hafiz Saeed said they will not allow the mandate to be stolen. He said they will get the the seats with the election commission and even others by recounting. He said the next Mayor of Karachi will belong the Jamaat-e-Islami.
