Lahore High Court reinstated Advocate General Punjab Ahmed Awais, after he was removed from his post by the caretaker government.

The court has also issued a notice to seek a response from the Punjab government. He had approached the court after he was dismissed from his post after the approval of Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Speaking to Bol News after being reinstated, Advocate General Punjab thanked the judiciary for the decision.

“The judiciary is the guardian of the constitution. Today, the court has upheld the law and not the violation of the constitution,” he said.

He said the court has declared the violation as unconstitutional. He said the decision must be appreciated as the matter will be resolved once and for all.  “People and positions come and go, ideology lives on. I am sure that justice will prevail,” he added.

He said the main purpose of the caretaker government is only to assist the election commission and conduct the next elections, while the Advocate General’s assists the court and provide legal advice to the government

Ahmad Owais said that if he is allowed to remain on the post, then he will give legal advice to the government regarding the election schedule.

Earlier this week, Advocate General Punjab Ahmad Awais was removed from his post, days after the new caretaker government to over.

A notification to the effect was issued after the approval from caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

At least 97 law officers of the Advocate General s Office were also relieved of their posts. According to the notification, 32 additional advocate generals and 65 assistant advocate generals have been removed from their posts.

Additional Advocate General Chaudhry Jawad Yaqoob was instructed to look after the administrative affairs of the office of the AGP.

The new caretaker government of Punjab has also appointed 20 new additional advocate generals and 35 assistant advocate generals.
