The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) failed to improve the power transmission system in the country, BOL News reported.

According to details, frequent power breakdowns in the country have raised questions about NTDC’s transmission system as Pakistan has suffered its fifth major breakdown in the past three years.

As per details, in September 2021, there was a technical fault in the Jamshoro grid station due to which 2000 megawatts of electricity was lost from the system, leaving half the country in darkness. Meanwhile, an inquiry committee was formed and NEPRA imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on NTDC.

Whereas, in January 2021, there was another power breakdown in the country after the Guddu Power Plant tripped. In March 2022, 1320 megawatts of power went out of the system when the towers of the Jamshoro transmission lines caught fire, leaving half the country in darkness.

However, on October 13, 2022, the power transmission system went down in the southern districts due to which the southern districts of the country, including Karachi, again lost electricity. NEPRA imposed a fine of Rs 7 crore on NTDC.

Notably, the fifth major breakdown occurred in the country this morning, affecting more than half of the country, including Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta and Hyderabad.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Energy, it was said that at 7:34 this morning, the reduction in the system frequency of the National Grid caused a major breakdown in the power system, the restoration work of which is going on rapidly.

Ministry of Energy says that the restoration of grid stations from Warsak has been started.
