QUETTA: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan on Friday issued an alert for deputy commissioners in anticipation of heavy snowfall, and rains forecast in most parts of the province from Saturday, Jan 28 to Jan 29.

The PDMA has directed all concerned authorities to remain alert during to the forecast period as predicted snowfall may disrupt normal life and vehicular traffic in mountainous/hilly areas.

The authority asked all departments concerned to be vigilant and take preventive measures in order to avoid any loss of human life or property.

The department concerned was instructed to have all apparatus, including the availability of heavy machinery at-risk/vulnerable areas and points.

Aside from that, the administrations were advised to encourage citizens in mountainous areas to minimize their movements and avoid unnecessary travel.

Furthermore, residents in these locations were asked to notify the appropriate departments in the event of an emergency.

Earlier, Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) predicted that the cold wave is likely to continue across Sindh including Karachi till January 29.

PMD Karachi Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said the lowest temperature in Karachi was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius. The northeastern winds blowing in the city with a wind speed of 14 kilometers per hour, he added.

He said that cold and dry weather is likely to prevail in the city for the next couple of days, while another cold wave is expected in the city in the first week of February.

He further said that another westerly wave is likely to enter Balochistan on Jan 28 which will bring rain/snowfall in parts of Balochistan.

On the other hand, cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very cold in upper parts and north Balochistan during the next twelve hours.

Rain with snow may occur at isolated places in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

The temperature of some major cities recorded in Islamabad was three degree centigrade, Lahore seven, Karachi 11, Peshawar five, Quetta minus six, Gilgit zero, Murree minus three, and Muzaffarabad two degree centigrade.
