KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has offered the post of Deputy Mayor to the Jamaat-e-Islami, sources revealed to Bol News
The PPP has contacted the Jamaat-e-Islami and offered the deputy mayorship if the coveted post of Mayor Karachi belongs to the PPP.
Sources revealed that the PPP has emerged as the largest party after the local government elections and thus, the mayor should belong to the party. PPP has expressed willingness to give the deputy mayor to the Jamaat-e-Islami.
It must be mentioned that the PPP won the local bodies elections in Karachi after securing 92 Union Council seats in Karachi. The Jamaat-e-Islami was placed second with 88 seats while the PTI managed to win only 40 seats.
Earlier today, Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI formed a four-member joint committee to deliberate on a joint mayoral candidate and also tally the number of Form 11 among the two parties.
Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman visited the PTI Sindh Secretariat and met a delegation led by PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi. They discussed the results of local government elections and demanded recognition of their mandate in Karachi.
Ali Zaidi said the election results should be issued as per Form 11. He said that there were around 40 such union councils where the PTI was a runner-up with a thin margin and they would not allow their mandate to be stolen.
Hafiz Naeem accused the Sindh government of manipulating the results of some union councils in the polls. He said they have a good working relationship with PTI and have worked together.
According to reports, the Jamaat-e-Islami did not seek PTI’s support for Mayor Karachi post, neither did the PPP give assurances of supporting the party.
The PTI demanded the issues of seats should be resolved before the final results are issued. The PTI leaders were adamant that they will not support the PPP in any case.
