SHC issues notice to NAB, Sindh Govt in NICVD corruption case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the Chairman National Accountability Bureau(NAB), DG NAB, and the Sindh government regarding alleged corruption in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease (NICVD).

Justice Salahuddin Panhwar of Sindh High Court heard the petition against non-progress in the NAB inquiry in the 380 million alleged corruption case against NICVD officials.

Court ordered NAB officials to submit an inquiry report regarding cardio hospital funds.

The petitioner Dr Tariq Shaikh stated that NAB started an inquiry into corruption in NICVD in 2020. The petitioner said more than 30 accused have got bail.

The NAB officials are not updating the detail related to the inquiry despite requests.

The court issued notices to Chairman NAB, DG NAB, and the Sindh government.

Earlier, Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) said it has received a complaint against the irregularities in the appointments/ promotions of officers in NICVD Karachi identified by Director General Audit Sindh, causing a loss of approx Rs. 69 million for the year 2020-21 (Rs 345 million in 5 years) to the national exchequer and allegation of misappropriation of Rs, 927.049 million of doubtful transfer of funds from the bank account.
