KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM-P) petition to hold the local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

Regarding the incomplete quorum of the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) and the legal status of the actions, the court said that the decision will be taken after hearing the detailed arguments on the plea related to the quorum of the ECP.

Advocate General Sindh Hasan Akbar, MQM lawyer Tariq Mansoor appeared in the court in the hearing of MQM’s stay-order petition related to stopping the local government elections till the final decision.

Advocate MQM argued that the incomplete Election Commission had issued the notification of local government elections which is illegal, to which the Advocate General said that an petition of MQM regarding the quorum of the Election Commission had already been rejected.

The Advocate General said that the MQM had requested to stop the local government elections in the plea related to the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision. The second petition of MQM was also rejected by the court.
