KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Friday held a meeting with Chairman of Muhajir Qaumi Movement (MQM) Afaq Ahmed.

The governor was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at MQM-Haqiqi chief residence.They discussed the political situation, development of the city, consultation with stakeholders and other issues of mutual interest pertaining to urban areas of Sindh.

They also discussed matters related to the unification of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) factions. Sources revealed that Sindh Governor urged Afaq Ahmed to be a part of this merger but Afaq Ahmed declined.

While talking to media persons, the governor said that MQM will not boycott the upcoming local government (LG) elections and actively take part in the polls

Tessori said that he was on a mission to unite the people and he had started his efforts in this regard soon after taking oath as the governor. He said that the people of the city were looking toward them and discussion among different groups was a good omen.

Tessori said that the agenda should only be one of how to develop the city, adding that all stakeholders of the city would sit together and issue a statement.

He slammed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani and asked him to tell about those making efforts to unite MQM factions.

He reiterated that MQM’s demands are valid and should be fulfilled. He said that Karachi is a friendly city for the whole nation but receives nothing in return.

He claimed that Afghani citizens are illegally establishing colonies in the metropolis. He said that he apprised the federal government about the illegal settlements in Karachi. He said Afghan citizens should be stopped from entering Pakistan.

Afaq Ahmed said he had refused to become part of the merger. However, he appreciated the governor’s efforts and said he is willing to be part of any attempt for the betterment of the city.

Tessori is making efforts for the unification of all MQM factions. He has met Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal and estranged MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar as part of efforts to reunite the party.
