KOHAT: At least 17 people died and one other got injured in a road mishap near Kohat Tunnel on Indus Highway as a passenger coach and trailer collided head-on, Bol News reported.

Both the vehicles were completely destroyed. Seven ambulances of Rescue 1122 reached the spot and shifted the dead bodies to DHQ hospital for medico-legal formalities. The local police reached at the site of the incident.

The incident reportedly took place due to brake failure of the trailer. The passenger coach was travelling from Lakki Marwat to Peshawar.

The accident was so fierce that the bodies turned into pieces. Rescue teams of police collected the bodies and took them to hospital. Police took the vehicles into custody.

On January 29, at least 40 people including children and women died when a passenger coach plunged into a ravine near Chanki Stop area of Lasbela.

A Karachi-bound passenger coach from Quetta carrying over 47 passengers had plunged into a gorge and caught fire. As a result, 40 passengers, including women and children were burnt to death on the spot.

Bela Assistant Commissioner Hamza Anjum Nadeem had said there were 47 passengers on board the ill-fated bus. He had said that the deceased and injured had been shifted to the Civil Hospital, Lasbela while others will be shifted to Karachi.

Police had said that the accident happened due to over-speeding as the bus went out of the driver’s control and careened into the ravine.
