LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has defended his remarks against former president Asif Ali Zardari and vowed to fight any legal challenge.
Speaking to a group of senior journalists at his residence in Zaman Park, the former prime minister said he stands by his remarks against Zardari.
“Asif Zardari should go ahead and file for defamation. This is only filed by those who have any respect,” he said, adding that he stands by his statement regarding the PPP chairperson.
Imran Khan also defended his strategy to dissolve the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said dissolving the assemblies was his best strategy, as the government has been drawn to a closed alley. He said general elections would not have taken place if assemblies were not dissolved.
He said if elections are not held within 90 days, the constitution will be violated.
Regarding his health, Imran Khan said he has to undergo another medical check-up and will start the election campaign after recovering.
It must be mentioned that Imran Khan had claimed that Zardari had hired a terrorist organization to assassinate him. He alleged that the PPP leader was among those who wanted to kill him.
The PPP reacted strongly to the accusation against Zardari and said it placed the former president and his family at great risk. The party said it was a victim of terrorism and the remarks by Imran Khan were completely false and baseless.
The PPP has sent Rs10 billion defamation notice to Imran Khan for the allegations.
