Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan slammed the government for shifting blame over resurging terrorism and its policy toward the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

“I am not in power anymore. Had I been in the government, then I would have been answerable,” the PTI chief lashed out at the federal government while addressing the nation.

The PTI chief claimed that terrorism was under control during his tenure and he was devastated by the Peshawar blast, which claimed the lives of over a hundred people and left scores injured.

Imran Khan said that the war on terror was imposed on them through propaganda and they were dragged into it after being paid dollars. He said the consequences were known when the United States sent its troops into Afghanistan.

Army in tribal areas

He said that the tribal area was peaceful compared to other areas of Pakistan and was a “huge mistake” to send the army to the region.

Imran said he feared instability in Afghanistan and a decision was taken by the parliament and the armed forces to settle the Taliban fighters in tribal areas.

He recalled that his party and MMA had opposed American intervention, but the MMA was voted to power in 2002 elections and allowed the US to enter the region despite opposing them.

“I heard the TTP’s name for the first time. I was called Taliban Khan for no reason,” he said, adding that drone attacks gradually increased and innocent people were killed in the tribal areas.

However, he said the PTI government made the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police stand on their feet and assisted in talks with the Afghan Taliban when their government came to power.  He said their position has been that peace in Afghanistan will lead to peace in Pakistan

Imran Khan added that his relationship with former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa was smooth and they were on the same page for some time. He said the only contention with the army chief was giving ‘NRO 2’ to the present rulers.

Imran said he visited Kabul when Ashraf Ghani was president and the world praised them for evacuating foreigners from Afghanistan.  He said unfortunately regime change took place and their government was overthrown.

Regime change and elections

He claimed the situation would be completely different if the coalition parties not removed his party from power. “Why did they remove my government when they could not run the country?”

The PTI chairman added that the incumbent rulers’ only reason for coming into power was to close their corruption cases worth Rs1,100 billion.

He said the masses are the victims of problems due to inflation, rising price of petrol, and increase in the value of the dollar. He added they left 16 billion dollars in reserves but only three billion remain.

Anyone who postpones the election beyond 90 days will be subject to Article 6

He said delaying the election under the pretext of terrorism will be sheer injustice and anyone who postpones the election beyond 90 days will face charges under Article 6.

Remarks against Zardari

Regarding the statement against former president Asif Ali Zardari, he said that the PPP leader should go to court and file a defamation case against him.

Imran Khan Zardari will be asked what “reputation” was damaged when he goes to court. Khan said that he has “solid information” about Zardari’s alleged plot to have him killed. He said it is a sign of doomsday that Zardari filed a defamation case against him.

Imran Khan said that an attempt is being made to send a message by arresting Fawad Chaudhry. He said the caretaker government has been brought to torture them and police was sent to Pervaiz Elahi’s house.

He said Punjab Governor’s letter has raised concerns over the security situation and terrorism is spreading and the entire JIT record of an attack on him has been sealed.

“Who is behind all this and is so powerful? He alleged that caretaker government is interfering in the affairs of JIT.
