ISLAMABAD: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali has proposed April 16 date for the provincial assembly’s elections, sources of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said.
The KP governor responded to the letter of ECP regarding to the announcement of the elections.
The Election Commission has received the letter from the governor.
However, the Election Commission needs 54 days to prepare for the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the sources said.
The ECP has called an important meeting on Wednesday (today) regarding the preparations for the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
However, Governor Punjab has not yet proposed the date of elections in Punjab, sources added.
The Election Commission has also written letters to the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and asked them that all possible transfer-posting process should be completed for conducting transparent elections in the provinces.
Sources further said that Election Commission will soon release the schedule of general elections in the provinces.
Any kind of transfer posting will be stopped after the election schedule is once announced.
