ISLAMABAD: In Toshakhana reference filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, a sessions court in Islamabad has deferred the indictment as Imran Khan sought exemption from appearing in court citing health conditions.

The verdict that was reserved earlier today was pronounced by Judge Zafar Iqbal after the PTI chief filed a petition seeking exemption from appearance in court.

The sessions judge said that a new date for the indictment of charges will be announced later and directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to provide attested copies of the evidence and complaint.

“The next date of indictment will be fixed after Election Commission provides certified copies to the PTI lawyers.”

At the outset of the hearing, the PTI counsel submitted a fresh plea for exemption to which the court inquired about the surety bonds.

PTI’s lawyer informed the court that the bonds were submitted a day earlier. The court also remarked that how the charges will be framed if exemption pleas are filed again and again.

PTI’s lawyer argued that they had not received the attested copies of the evidence and complaint.

The judge then directed the ECP panel to ensure all the required copies must be provided to the defence.

Pertinently, Toshakhana reference was filed by ECP against Imran Khan for allegedly misleading about the Toshakhana gifts he received during his tenure as prime minister.
