ISLAMABAD: Police have filed a case filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and focal person on legal affairs Hassaan Niazi after he was taken in custody.
Police registered the case at Ramna police station against Hassaan Niazi for invention in official affairs, display of weapons, and misbehaving with police officials.
The First Information Report (FIR) said Assistant Superintendent (ASI) Khoban Shah tried to stop the car but the driver rammed the car over the police. The complaint said Hassaan Niazi also threatened to kill him.
The complaint further said Niazi was accompanied by another person who took out a weapon and managed to get out of the vehicle and escaped. Niazi was arrested by police and taken into custody.
Hassaan Niazi was arrested from outside an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Monday and was shifted to an unknown location.
Police said Niazi was arrested for misbehaving with the police and resisting at a checkpost. His arrest came after appearing at the ATC in G-11 where a hearing was held of cases against PTI leaders and workers.
Advocate Faisal Chaudhry has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the release of the PTI leader. The petition stated that police “abducted” Hasaan Niazi from the premises of Judicial Complex after he obtained bail in a case.
PTI lawyer Naeem Haider Panjotha said Hassaan Niazi came out of the court along with him. He said they told police that Niazi has secured bail but Superintendent Police Nosherwan Khan forcibly took him away in a vehicle to Ramna police station.
PTI leader Farrukh Habib said SP Nosherwan abducted the PTI leader from outside the court despite receiving bail in all cases. He asked lawyers across the country to immediately come out in protest against the arrest.
