ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided not to file a review petition against the Supreme Court (SC) verdict in regard to the elections in Punjab and KP.
After SC’s ruling, an important consultative meeting of the party was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the elections was reviewed.
Sources privy to the matter have said that the meeting concluded to wait for the decisions of the high courts on this matter.
Sources said that the Prime Minister agreed with the opinion of the legal team and it was decided that a review petition will not be filed on the Supreme Court’s decision, but the decisions of the High Courts will be awaited.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also contacted Nawaz Sharif in this regard and not only this, the premier will also contact the heads of the allied parties.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court has ordered elections to be held in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 90 days.
