LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has once again refused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to provide judicial officers for the elections in Punjab.
The registrar LHC has informed ECP in this regard maintaining that thousands of cases are pending in courts and provision of judicial officials will further increase the pressure.
Following the rejection, the ECP has decided to take the ROs from the bureaucracy for elections.
The sources privy to the matter said that the release of the schedule is being delayed due to the consultation on the appointment of ROs and DROs.
According to law, ROs will be taken from bureaucracy after refusal from the judiciary, the sources added.
Pertinently, Election Commission has called a meeting today (Tuesday) to review preparations for the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Supreme Court, in a 3-2 verdict, ruled that elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab should be held within 90 days. The election commission decided to implement the decision and start making arrangements for the polls in the two provinces.
